For three weeks this summer the Lost Gardens of Heligan is playing host to an ambitious show with an ensemble of around 150 – and the best bit is anyone can be a part of it! No experience necessary!
A couple of nights ago I popped into the Hall for Cornwall to hear the WildWorks team introduce 100:Unearth, a passionate performance that will artfully weave together themes of Love, Lose, Hope and War.
In 2014 WildWorks created a one day, outdoor landscape theatre event also at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The emotive 100: The Day Our World Changed was a continuous dawn to dusk remembrance of the unknowing generation who bravely walking into battle in 1914, the start of World War I.
Now 100: UnEarth continues the narrative and it too will be more than a play. WildWorks prides itself on performances that encompass a landscape and surround the audience with an intoxicating world of their creation. This time, as we mark the centenary of the end of the war, they look at the devastating aftermath of conflict, telling the homecoming stories of all those who fight in and live through wars.
100: UnEarth has a love story at its heart and will take the audience on a journey in more ways than one, but more of that later. . .
So, WildWorks are offering everyone the opportunity to be part of this event, they are looking for volunteer performers, singers, set makers, costume makers as well as front of house. They want everyone to be involved, all abilities, young and old, so why not give it a go!?
“It was a truly amazing experience last year – if you can spare the time I would really recommend it.” says Kate, who took part in the company’s critically acclaimed performance of Wolf’s Child last summer, “There were lots of people who weren’t performers involved and they were welcomed, just as much as the people who were. You won’t have to speak if you don’t want to, just stand in the right place!”
Just some of the roles they are looking to fill are women of the village, children of the village, lost souls, angels of death and returning soldiers.
This is a real community piece at its heart, war and tragedy it seems is something that moves us all in some way and this event appears destined to touch all those involved and all those fortunate to see it.

Typo in second paragraph, “walking into battle in 1914, the start of World War II.” should be World War I
Woops, thank you!
