Review of A Guide to Cornwall by Weekend Journals

Some guidebooks are designed to simply get you from A to B. Others help you to discover the unique and the unexpected.

Weekend Journal’s Cornwall edition is a compendium of some of the county’s most special places, both traditional and contemporary. It guides the reader on a journey to some of hidden treasures of the Cornish Coast. To independent businesses that represent the very best of Cornwall. Effortlessly cool, stylish and innovative.

From restaurants and guesthouses to potteries, bakeries and galleries. This is an inspirational travel book for the design concious traveller.

Firm friends, old and new

Beautifully illustrated throughout, the journal is as stylish as the places it features.
Some are as familiar as a member of family – the Minack, the Tate or Leach Pottery. Others like the intriguing Folklore boutique in Falmouth or the bold and beautiful Temple restaurant in Bude are set to become new firm friends.

Temptation

This journal is all about temptation. Tempting those in the country to explore a little further and those from beyond the Tamar to come and discover a more modern, contempory and minimalist Cornwall.

The first sell-out edition of Weekend Journal was self published in 2016. It is the brainchild of travel writer Milly Kenny-Ryder, who first came to Cornwall as a child with her artist parents. Milly, along with her photographer brother Gabriel and husband, the designer Simon Lovell, has created a series that is not merely functional but designed to be admired and collected.

Tucked at the back of the journal there are also exclusive interviews with the chef Nathan Outlaw and the curator of Tresco Abbey Gardens, Mike Nelhams. Tom Kay, the founder of Finisterre, tells his story and what brought him to Cornwall.

My only complaint is that I wanted more! More individual artisans, more gorgeous galleries and more tempting eateries! With our vibrant creative commuities increasingly becoming an essential and integral part of what makes this county so special. It’s time to celebrate this with more publications like this one.

So go and grab yourself a copy and find your new favourite haunt.
